What is EU50?

EU50 – aka EURO STOXX50 – one of the most important exchange indices in the world. It shows the state of the economy of the European Union according to STOXX, the central provider of the Eurozone, which is regulated by the Deutsche Börse Group.

According to the STOXX mission statement, EURO STOXX50 is a blue-chip stock index of the Eurozone economy, especially its leading companies. The index is very important for the global economy and is often used to measure the success of the EU and forecasts for this sector.

It’s interesting: Unlike many other indexes constructed on the basis of the John Dow principle, EURO STOXX50 uses the Laspeyres formula as a basis. The index itself is compiled from the reports of 19 STOXX sector indices.

The index contains such companies as Adidas, L’Oreal, Philips and many other economic giants registered in the EU countries. That said, it’s led by a lot less noticeable companies like a real estate magnate Unirail Rodamco or insurance giant Munich Re.

The EURO STOXX50 index reached its record value in March 2000, when it amounted to 5,464 points. Now the European economy is undergoing a small recession and the index is at the level of 3,000–3,500.

What affects EURO STOXX50?

The chart direction of EURO STOXX50 depends on the main economic indicators of the Eurozone, as well as the main partner countries. Recently, he has been under intense pressure due to Brexit and economic problems in the south of the European Union.

If you trade EU50, we recommend that you consider these indicators:
  • The key interest rates of the Bank of Europe and the Bank of England;
  • GDP of the European Union and major contributors.

Basically, the EURO STOXX50 does not pay attention to small economic fluctuations. But major events – for example, a stock market crash or a protracted recession – may well affect him.
